Students are having professional traineeships in dental clinics every semester. The active study methods are used, such as situation analysis, role-playing and preparing educational material for the patients. Communication and inter-professional collaboration competences and team working skills are being developed by assisting dental hygiene students during traineeships. Critical thinking competence is developed by self-reflexing method and discussions.

During practical studies, real situations are simulated, which imitate patients and their care in a health care institutional environment. Practical studies are carried out in small groups with a possibility to acquire practical skills not only in clinical simulation laboratories but also in real working environments: hospitals of various profiles, healthcare centres, communities and patient home environment. Students have a possibility to finish part of the studies.
